Timber

A critical area of your home or building to consider when insulating is the internal walls.  It is not just about using insulation material to stop noise between rooms, you also need to consider the following:

  • Wall depths of 75mm, 90mm or thicker
  • Stud construction (staggered)
  • Acoustics: Noise transmission (IIC  Impact and airborne sound transmission)
  • Thermal:  Heating requirements of the adjoining room
  • Plasterboard quality and density (10mm, 13mm, 16mm or multiple layers) and how it is to be fixed to the framework
  • Cavity void
  • The function of the room next door, ie: laundry next to the office
  • Combination layers of acoustic wall barriers
Suitable Products:

The Autex Quietstuf polyester range provides an acoustically dense product as opposed to the Greenstuf thermal range.

Rockwool is a very dense mineral fibre material used for adding mass to a structure and sound deadening, it is ideal for internal walls. Care should be taken with installation due to the irritant nature of the product but once locked between floors or internal walls, should not pose a health risk.
